  • What is the "Blog"?
The blog is a section of the site where articles and links are posted pertaining to all areas of finance, personal finance, business, real estate, investing, etc. These posts provide interesting, useful, and entertaining content outside of the daily Wall Street headlines. Users are free to submit items that they want to share. Visit the blog for more details.
  • What is the personal information on the profile/account used for? Is it required?
Currently, Streetread lacks any real social-networking features. This may change in the future. The personal information located on the user profiles is optional, and is available as a fun option for users to personalize their experience here.
  • I know about another great financial web site that should be added to the interface. How do I suggest it?
As with all inquiries, click here to contact us. We are very open to suggestions of all kinds.
  • Which stocks are supported? How about international stocks?
Currently, only US stocks are supported here. Plans to allow for indicies and international stocks in the near future are in the works. To lookup a stock symbol, you can use Yahoo! Finance.
  • Why do some stories open in a new window instead of inside the interface?
Some web sites do not allow their pages to be displayed in such a manner, so they must be opened in a new window. To our knowledge, any story originating from bizjournals.com and nytimes.com will be forced into a new window. Sorry for the inconvenience.
  • Is it possible to automatically open all stories in a new window?
No it is not. Having the stories open inside the interface was implemented to make your experience even easier. If this becomes a desired feature, the option to do so will be made available. You can, however, open the story in a new window after clicking on the title and having it load in the interface. A link to "Open in a New Window" will be available.
  • What is the "Bookmark" button used for?
The "Bookmark" button is a service provided by AddThis that allows users to easily add a certain web page to either their browsers favorites, any popular online bookmarking service, or to an email to send to someone else. To use it, either hover your mouse over the button or click on it to display all of the available options.
  • Are there any web browsers that are not supported here?
Yes. To the best of our knowledge from current testing, Internet Explorer versions below 6 are not supported and will be redirected upon visiting the main page. Testing of Safari has shown an occasional problem with the display of external web pages within the interface. Other browsers that have not yet been fully tested may have issues. If you are experiencing any strange issues with a certain browser, please let us know immediately. There are no plans to introduce support for Internet Explorer versions lower than 7. If you are using such a browser, it is highly encouraged that you upgrade for free. Streetread is known to work best with Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 2+.
  • I just added a stock to my account and there are only a few headlines available? Why is this?
This could be for two reasons. If the stock you entered is an inactive, loosely covered company, than there will not be many recent headlines available for it. If this is not the case, then you might have been the first user to enter the given stock into our system. From now on, headlines will begin to accumulate.
  • How often are the headlines refreshed?
Currently, each news source updates every 60 minutes.
  • How far back in time do these headlines go? How many are stored?
Currently, the last 100 headlines are stored, if that many are available.
  • Is it possible to link directly to a certain stock symbol, so that I could provide a link in an email or web page?
Yes this is possible using the following URL format: http://www.streetread.com/?s=MSFT (replacing MSFT with any stock symbol). Upon visiting this link, the news and chart for the specified stock will automatically appear.
  • Can I remove the websites that I don't like reading? Can I change the order of the websites?
Yes and yes, but only if you have created an account. While logged in, click "Settings" in the upper menu. A list of the available websites will be shown. You can then add/remove websites and change the order in which they appear.
